National Commander - Ken Hunt

This is the announcement of Ken Hunt's Initial Appointment to the National Royal Rangers Office

INTRODUCING: Ken Hunt recently was named Editor/Promotions Coordinator of Royal Rangers materials. He began his duties in November 1988.

In his new position, Ken serves as editor for the High Adventure and High Adventure Leader.

A native of southern Missouri, Ken is the son of an Assemblies of God minister. After graduating from Evangel College with a degree in sociology, he served in the U.S. Army for 3 years, 1 year of which he spent in Vietnam.

Following military service, Ken worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company before going into general contracting business.

He also has been active in his church as a Men's Ministries leader and a Royal Rangers outpost commander. Presently, he serves on the deacon board of Oak Grove Assembly.

Ken and his wife Sharon have two children; Ryan, age 12; and Heather, age 10.

We in the Royal Rangers national office believe that Ken will be a great asset to the Rangers ministry.

NEWS RELEASE

MEN'S MINISTRIES DEPARTMENT, Springfield, Missouri--Ken Hunt, editor/promotions coordinator for the national Royal Rangers ministry since November 1988, has been named national commander for Royal Rangers, effective September 12, 1989. Mr. Hunt was appointed to succeed the late Johnnie Barnes, who founded the Royal Rangers in 1962, and served as national commander until his death in June 1989. Mr. Hunt's placement was made by action of the Assemblies of God Executive Presbytery, on a recommendation of the national headquarters Board of Administration, after consultation with the 18-member Royal Rangers Executive Committee and interviews by Ken Riemenschneider, national secretary, Men's Ministries Department, and Silas L. Gaither, national director, Division of Church Ministries.

Prior to assuming his duties at headquarters, Commander Ken Hunt owned and managed a commercial and residential building firm. Commander Hunt is a 1972 graduate of Evangel College. At Evangel he met Sharon Thomas, who is his wife of 16 years. His college training was interrupted by 3 years of army service, 1 year of which was spent in Vietnam.

After college Commander Hunt worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Springfield, Missouri. Later, the Hunts moved to Oklahoma to establish their building business. Their children, Ryan, 13, and Heather, 11, were born in Oklahoma.

Commander Hunt, as a layman, has served in many capacities in Assemblies of God churches, including deacon, Sunday school teacher, men's director, and Royal Rangers outpost commander. The Hunts attend Oak Grove Assembly of God in Springfield, Missouri, where Reverend Chalen J. Campbell is pastor.

Besides working with district Royal Rangers commanders and national commanders in 43 foreign countries, Commander Hunt has an able staff at national headquarters of the Assemblies of God. They consist of Paul Stanek, deputy national commander; Ralph Glunt, National Royal Rangers Training Center camp coordinator; Donna Jester, secretary and editorial assistant; Phyllis Dodson, senior stenographer/clerk; and Richard Schoonover, stenographer/clerk.

Commander Hunt says of his new position: "Each day, Jesus' message, ‘. . . the harvest is come,' echoes more strongly in my mind. The Word has gone forth; harvesters are hearing the plea. And I am privileged to labor alongside these faithful Royal Rangers workers, together planting and reaping for our Lord. Our task is still the same--to serve boys and build them into Christ-serving men."

Silas L. Gaither, national director, Division of Church Ministries, says of Commander Hunt, "He is a team man who has proven himself to be a capable leader with many skills and talents. He has a genuine desire to win boys and men to Christ. I have every confidence he will serve well as national commander of Royal Rangers."
